Teacher Resources
The defining moment of September 11, 2001 following the most heinous act of terrorism in continental US, teachers have been seeking to find meaningful ways to involve their students in appropriate activities that define what it is to be a citizen in a democracy. Many schools throughout the United States have mandated some form of Peace Education. Teachers, whether they acknowledge it or not already integrate peace education, without calling it by name, into their teaching episodes. True, the terminology Peace Education is still new. However, the concept of peace education has historically, been discussed in various parts of the world, as Education for Conflict Resolution, International Understanding, and Human Rights; Global Education; Critical Pedagogy; Education for Liberation and Empowerment; Social Justice Education; Environmental Education; Life Skills Education; Disarmament and Development Education; and more. Observable here is the fact that cumulatively, these various labels illuminate the depth and diversity of the field.
